Former England goalkeeper urges Fraser Forster to make Celtic return

PAUL ROBINSON has urged Fraser Forster to swap Southampton’s bench for Celtic’s 10IAR recovery mission. The 32-year-old was a star loan signing last season but no deal transpired in the summer with the big goalie remaining at the Premier League team. However, former England internationalist Robinson told Football Insider that it was in everyone’s interests for Forster to go back to Celtic.

“I do not know if Forster could save their season but his arrival would go a long way. It would be a big boost.

“Celtic were massively disappointed that he did not stay. He went back to Southampton but he has not got a game so I think it would be in everyone’s interests that he moved back to Scotland

“If it was me, I would want to go. He did amazing things there last season and I think he will want to play.”

Fraser Forster hasn’t played a minute this season as Alex McCarthy retains the No.1 jersey with the Premier League outfit. However, with the news that Hasenhuttl is looking to bring a new goalkeeper to St Mary’s, Forster could be open to the prospect of returning to Celtic.

Celtic have been a shadow of last season and one of the reasons for that is that Forster hasn’t been the reassuring presence between the sticks. Neither Vasilis Barkas nor Scott Bain have managed to hold down the starting jersey and now, Celtic desperately need to get a new goalkeeper in the door and address the awful defensive record this campaign.

Conor Hazard started vs Lille and looked assured despite conceding twice, which will likely see him keep his place on Sunday. Although, Neil Lennon will know the importance of a goalkeeper and that would likely be the big Englishman.
