Former Malmo boss heading to Celtic Park next month with Blackburn Rovers

Jon Dahl Tomasson is coming to Glasgow again, and after his last visit to the city it would be a nice touch if Celtic were to roll out the red carpet for our Danish visitor.

Tomasson had a few in the mainstream Scottish press shifting uncomfortably in their seats as he cheekily taunted them and theRangers over the Ibrox club’s financial woes, just prior to his former side Malmo eventually knocking the latest Ibrox club out of the Champions League qualifiers – and of course denying them a source of the much-needed income he hinted at in his pre-match press conference.

Now Tomasson has been appointed as Tony Mowbray’s successor at English Championship side Blackburn Rovers, and his new charges will be heading to Celtic Park to take part in a pre-season friendly match on 16 July, just a couple of weeks before Ange Postecoglou’s side set about the defence of their Scottish Premiership title.

Of course, this match will be important preparation for Celtic as we look to get up to speed in time for that title defence and a return to the Champions’ League Group stages, and whilst it would have been good to see Mowbray in charge of the visitors, the appointment of Tomasson gives this fixture some extra significance.

For a man who gave Celtic fans – and indeed fans of every Scottish club bar one – so much pleasure with that pre-match presser, do us all a favour Celtic and get him on the pitch prior to the game. Just so we can all show our levels of gratitude to Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Jon Dahl Tomasson incidentally got the Blackburn Rovers job while fellow Scandinavian candidate Ronny Deila opted for the Standard Liege job. We wish both of them all the very best in their new positions,
