French Eddy to start afresh in Italian Job?

Wantaway striker Odsonne Edouard seems to have been linked with every club under the sun in the last twelve months; Aston Villa, Napoli and AC Milan to name but a few – however, his most recent link away from Paradise is by far his most prestigious yet.

According to Calciomercato, Italian superclub Juventus are the latest to be linked with the clinical Frenchman amongst other options, with I Bianconeri looking to increase their firepower given their pedestrian start to proceedings in the Serie A.

Juve – who boast global superstars Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morato in their striking ranks – have had an uncharacteristic start to life in the top tier of Italian football this season, lying lowly in sixth place for the Christmas break.

The ‘Old Lady’, who have won every ‘Scudetto’ since the 2011-12 season, are a huge ten points behind leaders AC Milan after just thirteen games, despite the incredible squad they have assembled. Their problem this season is scoring goals; they’ve only lost once in thirteen games, which came on Tuesday night in a shock 3-0 home loss to Fiorentina. But, having accumulated six draws in that period, the Allianz Stadium outfit have noted where the problems is and are now looking to poach a goalscorer from Europe to turn their stalemates into victories, prompting the skillful Edouard to be linked to the most decorated club in Italy.

The Frenchman hasn’t exactly been in scintillating form for the Hoops’ this term, claiming just nine goals in all competitions for Neil Lennon’s side since the start of the campaign. However, his exploits over the past two seasons have been sufficient enough for Andrea Pirlo and his staff to sit up and take notice – with his eye for goal, chance creation and alertness being classed as key qualities for the Serie A title race.

He does face competition for the role though, as Calciomercato claim that Fernando Llorente could make a return to Turin – alongside potential considerations for out-of-favour Chelsea target man Olivier Giroud and Napoli hitman Arkadiusz Milik.

Despite the sullenness and evident poor body language that Edouard possesses at the moment, there is no doubt that his qualities would be sorely missed if he was to escape to the Alpine club; however, with just eighteen months left on his contract, Celtic may need to cash now or they could see French Eddy walk away for free in the summer of 2022.
