It’s been a topic of speculation for quite some time but Bayern Leverkusen player and Former Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong is in talks to sign for Liverpool in a proposed €35 million move…

Discussions have said to have taken place between both clubs with talks know under way on the players side as a move looks imminent.

Celtic sold Frimpong to Leverkusen in 2021

The Dutch international signed for the Bundesliga side in 2021 for a deal believed to be around £11 million but savvy Celtic chiefs insisted on a thirty percent sell on clause on the profit of a future transfer which now looks like fully paying off rather well for the Scottish Champions.

It means that Celtic would be due around €7 million minimum when Jeremie Frimpong finally puts pen to paper on a deal with the twenty times English Champions.

This has been a well known transfer for quite some time, but now it looks like it will finally happen and the club will get a cash windfall without losing a member of our squad, in what will be a major welcoming boost to Brendan Rodgers transfer kitty in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Celtic’s business model requires player sales

That’s not to say that Celtic will not lose any of our star players this summer. Developing and thereafter selling on with a large profit is after all the Celtic business model that has worked so well over the past decade or so and is now bing refined by Brendan Rodgers as he looks to continue Celtic’s re-emergence as a force to be reckoned with in the UEFA Champions League.

One sale at £30m will allow Rodgers to bring in three players in the £10m bracket, probably one in each outfield area of the team, without touching the millions already in Celtic’s bank account.

Fret about possible exits after the Scottish Cup Final.

We’ll worry about possible exits after the Scottish Cup Final. If it’s a similar situation with Kyogo last summer then Celtic will look to move any want-away player on as and when suits the club and if the transfer fee expectations are met.

That Frimpong windfall adds to the pot an should be re-invested in the team.
