Frimpong shines again, time for Celtic to offer improved terms

JEREMIE FRIMPONG was Celtic’s breakthrough player last year and the right-wing back was man of the match as Neil Lennon’s side beat Hibs 3-0 yesterday. The 19-year-old signed from Manchester City last summer to no fanfare and very little expectation but one year later, he has stamped his authority on the Scottish Champions with energetic displays and an infectious personality.

Frimpong’s tireless work rate in attack and in defence is incredible and Neil Lennon must ask his scouting department each day if he can find someone like Frimpong on the left. The ex-City kid should be offered a new deal to reflect his first team surroundings by getting him to commit to a long term deal beyond his current terms which end in the summer of 2023.

The deal which Frimpong signed in September of last year represents a youngster at the club and with his breakthrough and continued rise, the club would be shrewd in offering him improved terms.

Frimpong’s performances will have registered with clubs down south as he is capable of doing so much with and without the ball. The Dutch U19 will be hot property in a few years and Celtic can get in their first, offering the young full back new and improved terms and showcasing to the player that he is an important part of the club.
