‘We’re frustrated but we’ll sort it out against Rosenborg,’ Griffiths

LEIGH GRIFFITHS thought he had snatched a dramatic last gasp winner on Friday night. The supporters at the game thought that it was a goal but the linesman’s decision to raise his flag was spot on and it was not to be for Griff.

He’d had a funny sort of a week. It started with footwear problems against Belgium then an injury scare. He was fit though to play Albania but was dropped in favour of Steven Naismith who had a hand in the Albanian OG and scored the second one in a 2-0 Scotland victory.

McLeish then stated that the Hearts man is now his number one striker.

Griffiths then signed his 4 year extension to stay at Celtic for the ten in a row push and wanted to get things off to a flyer in Paisley but was benched in favour of Odsonne Edouard.

He got on, missed a good chance when he skied a James Forrest cross into the flight path then had the ball in the net in the closing seconds only to be correctly flagged offside.

You get the feeling that the dam is going to burst soon though and there is going to be a flurry of Griffiths goals and that could start on Thursday when Rosenborg come calling, this time on Europa League duties.

Griffiths looked back to events in Paisley before thinking about the Europa League action.

“Yes we were frustrated. We dominated the game, despite playing a large part of it with 10 men.

“At times, you are not going to get clear-cut chances, but sometimes you need to take those half-chances that come along.

“You have to give credit to St Mirren, they were resolute and were difficult to break down.

“Now we have a good week’s training and we look forward to a big game against Rosenborg.”

On his new contract the Celtic Number 9 was clearly over the moon to get it all signed off.

“I am delighted to get it over and done with,” Leigh said.

“It has been a long time coming and I was unfortunate not to cap it off with a goal. I thought it was really tight. I was looking back and it I was probably half-a-yard offside.

“I had a chance earlier in the game I should have buried with my right foot, but it wasn’t to be.”
