Giorgos Giakoumakis has been recognised for his hat trick by being named in the FIFA 22 UT Team of the Week. The 27-year-old proved to be Celtic’s star man on a potentially huge day in the title race. The Greek striker started through the middle for Celtic on Sunday having been benched for the defeat over Bodø/Glimt but he showed his worth with three goals against Dundee to put Ange Postecoglou’s side three points clear.
The player has been recognised alongside Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski in the Team of the Week, while being given a rating of 80 following his performance.
Celtic fell behind as Mullan clipped a half volley into the net from a corner. Reo Hatate will not want to see that one again after he adjusted his shinpads as the ball was swung in, lost his man and was helpless as Mark McGhee’s side went 1-0.
Celtic went level and then ahead through GG with a quick-fire brace. Giakoumakis showed great instincts in the box to pounce and fire the ball beyond Lawlor in the Dundee net. The first came from a scramble in the box following a corner, Giakoumakis turned and buried a shot into the net. The second was due to some good build up play from Maeda, who’s cross/shot was parried into Giakoumakis’ path.
Sweeney scored a second for Dundee as Celtic were punished for failing to score their third. Dundee decided to settle and Celtic pushed and pushed. With five minutes remaining, Tony Ralston pushed forward and curled a ball towards the front post. Giakoumakis threw himself towards the ball to net. The player ran away with his shirt off as the Celtic support went wild, knowing how important this win could be come May.
Giakoumakis will be hoping that his form can propel Celtic into the next round of Europe, overturning a two goal deficit in the process.
