Giorgos Giakoumakis scored another fine goal at the weekend for MLS side Atlanta untied, bringing his goal tally to an impressive 10 in just 14 games since his move from Celtic.
Predictably Celtic supporters do what they do best and have been bemoaning his loss on social media. Yes Giorgio’s was a superb player and it would have been good if stayed put, but at the end of the day he wanted to leave and you can’t keep an unhappy player.
Kyogo is the best finisher in the country and Ange Postecoglou quite rightly couldn’t promise Giorgos a regular start. There’s no way he would have been a permanent starter at the expense of the Japanese striker.
Yes he’s doing well in the MLS and it’s good to see, but the standard of the football in the US is not as good as Scotland, it’s arguably the same at a push, but better? No.
Remember Lewis Morgan? The former Celtic winger is a stand out in the US, scoring 25 goals for inter Miami and New York Red Bulls in just four seasons in the MLS, compare that to his 31 goals in seven seasons in Scottish football.
Patryk Klimala remember him? Three goals in just two seasons at Celtic, but managed 14 in two campaigns with New York Red Bulls.

Giorgos was critical of the Scottish game when he left, I’d love to hear his thoughts on the American game, although I think he’ll quite rightly keep his thoughts to himself until he moves to another league.
We now have a promising replacement in Hyeon-gyu Oh who looks the part scoring six goals in just 16 games, baring in mind he’s only started a handful of games. That’s impressive. Time to focus on who’s here presently, not ones who are elsewhere.
