Glasgow City 1-0 Celtic – Hoops go down to freak goal scored after 15 seconds

Celtic FC Women defeated by only goal of game scored after just 15 seconds…

Elena Sadiku loses her second game in charge of Celtic FC Women with a 1-0 defeat away at Glasgow City this afternoon…

With mere 15 seconds on the clock, Glasgow City opened the scoring as Fiona Brown beat Kelsey Daugherty with a freakish goal as her cross wickedly deceived the Celtic keeper as it landed in the far corner of the Celtic goal. You can watch disastrous starthat below.

That led to a drastic first-half for Celtic, with our only real chance coming through new signing Tash Flint, who headed into the hands of City keeper Lee Gibson, who is used to being much busier when facing a Celtic side.

City were certainly the dominant side, forcing Daugherty into a diving save just minutes after scoring the opener as things looked like going from bad to worse for the new Celtic manager. And it looked like a bad day was going to turn into a terrible one for Celtic fans as Amy Gallacher went down holding her arm. She received treatment and managed to continue, but let’s hope that this isn’t going to see her sidelined as she looked in quite a bit of pain.

As the team went in at half-time, Celtic would have been hoping to make their mark on the second half after City had been on top for a majority of the first 45. Things certainly couldn’t be much worse on a ground where Celtic often struggle. It wasn’t looking good for us as City stayed in our final third thanks to back-to-back free kicks. The first was claimed by Daugherty and the second went out of play, but not a good look for the Hoops.

Even worse when Lauren Davidson came close for City, shooting from a free kick and making Daugherty get low to knock it away. The winger continued to make an impact on the game as she sent a dangerous ball into our box. Thankfully for us, no City player was there to capitalise, but it could easily have been two nil.

In the dying minutes of the game, Celtic at last threatened and looked slightly better, but it was too late to salvage anything at all from a dismal day for the Celtic team and the supporters. Elena Sadiku’s side ended up with exactly what we deserved which was to return home empty handed and it’s clear that the Swedish head coach has plenty of work to do to re-shape and indeed re-build this Celtic squad. Hopefully Celtic will give the resources to do just that. Time will tell.

Meanwhile theRangers secured the three points with a hard-fought 2-1 up at Aberdeen, that takes them six points clear of Celtic FC Women in the SWPL1.
