Glasgow City Councillor pours cold water on Green Brigade theory

Glasgow City Council’s Ruairi Kelly has poured cold water on the theory that the Green Brigade were shut down by the club before the council intervened. Kelly, a councillor for the Glasgow North East ward, took to Twitter/X to state that the decision had nothing to do with Glasgow City Council.

Celtic took the step on Tuesday afternoon to temporarily suspend the Season Tickets for Green Brigade members pending further review. The Scottish Champions face St Mirren on Wednesday evening but the Green Brigade will not be in attendance.

The club cited a number of concerns over recent conduct from the GB as their rationale behind the decision. The current standoff between parties has been simmering away for some time and the resulting ban felt inevitable. However, the club and the Green Brigade should get together around the table and thrash out an agreement that will allow these supporters to return to games.

Matt Corr’s new book Majic, Stan and the King of Japan is out now and Neil Lennon, the Celtic captain that season, has written the foreword for us.
