Glasgow City v Celtic FC Women – Team News, Kick-off Time and Where to Watch

It’s a big one tomorrow as Celtic FC Women face off against Glasgow City, who are currently tied on points with us. If we want to enhance our chances of securing the league title stay high, then a victory here is crucial.

Last time out, Celtic FC Women beat theRangers Women in a 2-1 victory at the Excelsior Stadium. Our rivals bounced back and secured their first piece of silverware, that being the Sky Sports Cup, but Hibs will hope to steal some points from the league leaders when they meet tomorrow afternoon.

As you’ll likely remember, we last met Glasgow City at the end of January when they beat us 1 nil. Their freakish goal came after just 15 seconds, and the Celts couldn’t fight their way back into the game. They’ll be hoping that things will be different this time around.

Elena’s View

The Celtic FC Manager Elena Sadiku spoke to Celtic TV ahead of the clash. She said: “Sometimes you don’t like having breaks [in the fixtures]because you want to keep the momentum that we’ve been having. The girls have been brilliant though in coming back to training and keeping the standards up because they know that every game is a game that is very important, and this week has been really good so far. We’re just going to keep building on that.

“It’s been good for them [the players]to recharge and get some energy back. It’s stuff that you need to balance as a coach, when we’re in, we work hard, but when we’re off, we try to be off of football.

“I think when it comes to the split, we’ve had the best and hardest scenario of playing Rangers first and now we’re playing against Glasgow City so we’re facing top three directly. But that’s a challenge that we love to face and that’s something that we want to face directly. We started good but we just want to keep going.”

Team News

During her pre-match interview, Elena gave a very positive update on the squad. She said: “The squad is looking amazing. I think everyone is back in the squad. Obviously, we have Hana [Kerner] and Luana [Muñoz] who are injured but on the way back.

Elena Sadiku with Lisa Robertson

“We have a good surprise in that Lisa Robertson is back on the pitch and has been training full for two weeks now, entering the third week. She’s been doing amazing on the pitch and for me, it’s almost getting a new player into the squad. I can’t even imagine she’s been having a child because she looks really fresh, and I can’t wait to have her in the squad again.”

Great news as we go into, what is sure to be, a difficult fixture. Let’s hope that a fully fit squad will have no problem dispatching of City.

Kelsey’s View

Star goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty previewed the match with Celtic TV. She said: “It was awesome [last game out against Rangers]. It gave us energy going into the split. Good performance and good result.

“I think it’s super important [to get off to a good start in the split]. We started off super strong in a busy part of the season and now having City the following match is a tough start, but hopefully a good one. Hopefully [Celtic can have a good performance against City]. It’s exciting.

“I think it’s always good to have, not a rest period, but time to focus and not having anything to prepare for. Just being focused on us, what we can do and how we can better. It’s nice to have that.”

Match Officials

Gary Hanvidge is the referee for this post-split clash. He will be assisted by Christopher Irving and Joseph Cheney. Stuart Broadfoot has been named as the Fourth Official. There’s no VAR to worry about in the SWPL.

Score Prediction

Glasgow City 0 – 1 Celtic FC Women is how I see this match going. Our games against City always tend to be tight, and while I do think we’ll come out on top, I think they’ll give us a good fight. Goal scorer – Amy Gallacher.
