“Goals and assists come after hard work, Jota

Jota played his part and scored another goal from the penalty spot yesterday against a very stingy Ross County defence, after scoring just before the international break versus Hibs from twelve yards out too.

Since Josip Juranovic left the club, the penalty duties have been assigned elsewhere and it’s so far, so good from our superstar from Portugal in that regard.

By all accounts, the winger didn’t have his most impactful or effective game up at Dingwall and was visibly frustrated with himself at times as wayward passes had become the standard on Sunday afternoon unfortunately.

Despite all this, he did the damage when we needed it just befoe half-time, after being on the receiving end of a good decision with VAR technology for a welcome change.

The former Benfica man revealed post-match with Celtic TV that it was good just to play his part in another win which maintained our nine-point gap at the top of the league looking down on theRangers, and keeps us on course for that second consecutive Scottish Premiership title.

Jota said: “We wanted to start this new phase after the international break on the right foot and I think we did it with a win.”

The silky wide-man confessed that the team knows it wasn’t one of their better performances of the campaign, but acknowledged it was job done. He said: “It was not our best performance but we learn from our mistakes and we go on.

In the end, the most important thing was the three points and we delivered. I think nowadays in football there’s a big perspective on goals and assists, and on my side I always think on something else which is be good on the game that the team does, be involved, create chances.

“That’s my aim and I think the goals and assists will come after the hard work, but my main goal is just to try to put my team-mates playing in good positions, create opportunities and just be happy playing football, just like before when I was just a kid.

“I’m not a person who thinks on the past or the future, I’m just here to enjoy every moment. That’s what I’m doing. I don’t know what the future holds so I cannot control that. I’ll just control the present and give my best to everyone.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
