Going out with a Bang – “I can smash through the finishing line,” Joe Hart

All the best Joe, now let’s help him go out on a high…

Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart today announced that he will be retiring from football at the end of the season. Joe on his day was a world class keeper, you don’t play for the likes of Manchester City and earn 75 caps for England if you aren’t top quality.

Joe signed for the club under Ange Postecoglou in 2021 and although it’s fair to say his very best days were behind him, there is no doubt that he’s been a superb player for us and a brilliant addition to the Celtic squad as together we’ve all enjoyed his five trophy wins and hopefully another two to come before he hangs up his gloves for the last time, hopefully at the Scottish Cup final at Hampden.

He’s had his moments like all keepers do, but overall he’s been a fantastic signing. It’s not just his shot stopping abilities, it’s his presence and experience not only on the pitch but in the dressing room, he’s a true leader. There were rumours of Joe staying on for a further year, but unfortunately today he’s knocked that speculation on the head by deciding to call it a day before his body calls it a day for him.

Let’s hope he goes out on a high by winning the league title and the Scottish Cup. That would be the ultimate high for him to bow out on, and it’s not impossible for him to do so, despite our recent displays. Joe has been one of our top performers in 2024 so far and he’ll be determined to maintain. his own top form and encourage the outfield players to raise their game. Maybe Joe’s announcement will actually help the squad lift their levels as they’ll all want to send Joe off on a high.

However the season pans out, it won’t affect the affection Joe has amongst the Celtic supporters. We will always be grateful for his efforts and he will always be warmly welcomed at Celtic Park. He of course already knows that. All the best to Joe Hart of the Celtic. YNWA.
