Gordon Strachan in line for senior Celtic role, according to report

Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is being lined up for a senior role in the club, according to The Scottish Sun. The 64-year-old is currently Director of Football at Dundee FC but the report states that the club’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond is keen on bringing Strachan back to the club.

Strachan’s sons Gavin and Craig are currently employed by the club and the former Manchester United and Leeds United winger has been on the Celtic TV gantry over the course of the season but the news will still be received poorly by some of the support due to the same faces being brought in by the board. Shaun Maloney had been suggested as a potential name involved in the role of Technical Director, helping to mould a future generation of talent from Lennoxtown to the pitch at Celtic Park.

Craig Strachan is one of the club’s UK and Europe Scouts while Gavin assists with the first team as a coach. Gary Penrice is still the club’s recruitment head, working under Postecoglou and McKay as they look to identify and sign new talent. Celtic need to implement a new style of play and recruit accordingly in the next few weeks in order to stand the best chance to seal qualification to The Champions League and towards regaining the league title.

Fergal Harkin had been touted as one of the potential contenders for the DoF role but Celtic appeared to stall on their pursuit of the City Group Partnership manager. Strachan has a lot of pros but equally the baggage attached to the former Celtic manager may stop fans fully getting behind his appointment.

Strachan won 3 League Titles in four years at Celtic, winning 2 League Cups and 1 Scottish Cup. He is occasionally a good outlet of pro-Celtic opinions but he often defends the board too heavily.

  1. Another stupid idea from our incompetent board, we should be sacking the other Strachan s at CELTIC as they have contributed nothing.
