Gordon Strachan’s post match rant as pundits dissect Celtic’s poor season

Gordon Strachan and the punditry team watched on as Celtic fell to a 2-0 defeat to Rangers in The Scottish Cup. The former Celtic manager was on punditry duty with Premier Sports and in the wake of the defeat, WGS went on a rant about Celtic’s chopping and changing and why it cost them in the game that they really should’ve achieved a better result than the scoreline suggests.

Strachan wants the club to look at the bigger picture after a poor season, including the supporters after the first year without silverware from 2009/10. Strachan was supported by former Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, who said that the recruitment cost Celtic meaning players like Callum McGregor and Scott Brown were being let down by players that weren’t trying.

John Hartson really skewers the point on recruitment, highlighting the poor dealings that the club have undertaken this season. Ultimately the points that the pundits raised are all correct, the club haven’t managed themselves well since COVID-19 struck the UK. Strahan said that the club had received warnings that Rangers were getting better but they hadn’t acted, leaving the door open for this season to happen.

Brendan Rodgers heralded in an incredible period of success. However, as he left, the standards of some appeared to drop and the club have found themselves in a position where a drastic overhaul is required.
