Griffiths returns to Celtic training, will Lennon start him and Edouard vs St Johnstone?

LEIGH GRIFFITHS was pictured training in photos released by the club today. The 30-year-old missed the last two defeats but will likely be part of tomorrow’s game versus St Johnstone, which may come just in time for Neil Lennon.

Celtic are currently embroiled in a woeful run of form with two wins in eleven games. The Scottish Champions will need a flawless run this month and one idea that the manager will surely want to try out is a return of the Griffiths/Edouard partnership that tore teams apart last season.

The poacher arrived back to pre-season training overweight which meant that he missed the trip to France and has been playing catch up ever since. Griffiths struggling with fitness has been the only consistent thing in the first team this season but the gaols against Aberdeen and St Johnstone prove he can still offer something to the first team.

Earlier in the week, Partick Thistle boss Ian McCall suggested that the key to Celtic’s return to form could be partnering Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard. The pair were deployed as part of Neil Lennon’s 3-5-2 plan which resulted in Celtic opening up a huge thirteen point gap over Rangers to clinch 9IAR.

Celtic have struggled in attack, especially in breaking teams down so a striker of Griffiths’ calibre could help break them down as he allows Edouard the freedom to interact with the play while Griffiths could run in behind.

Elsewhere, Shane Duffy and Moi Elyounoussi weren’t pictured in training so Lennon may risk Griffiths in what is a must-win game for him.
