I think we all realised that Jota’s season was over when we saw him come back onto the pitch with his leg in a brace and walking with the assistance of crutches…

When his injury happened, shortly after his presence forced that own goal opener at Tannadice against Dundee United, we hoped that the substitution was simply precautionary and Brendan and his staff were taking no chances with our Superstar from Portugal, who joined Nicolas Kuhn in returning to the starting Celtic XI after a few weeks on the bench after the disappointment in Perth.
Brendan talked down the extend of the injury in his post match media conference at Tannadice which happened shortly after the players returned to the away dressing room to celebrate a fourth title in a row and for Celtic a 13th in 14 seasons and a record breaking 55th title in total, taking the overall total of Celtic honours to 120 – with one more to play for this season.

The Celtic manager said: “He just felt his knee with the medical guys, we’re looking at whether his meniscus is a little bit sore. We’ll just have to assess that. Of course, they put it in the brace to protect it, but we’ll see in the next couple of days.”
One of the redtops is claiming that Jota’s season is over and he is now a doubt for the UEFA Champions League qualifiers at the end of August, despite saying he’s likely to be sidelined for a few months.
If it’s a few months right enough then he’ll be fine for pre-season. If it turns out to be four months then Jot will certainly miss the most vital few matches of our season.

But we’d be better all just waiting for news from Celtic, which should come this week, either on a pre-Glasgow Derby interview with Celtic TV or in the Sky Sports pre-match interview with the manager. That happens before Brendan speaks to the written press and Celtic TV obviously have the opportunity for the exclusive themselves, so you can essentially take today’s update with a pinch of salt.

It’s a result that’s likely to come in for them though, Jota’s season is more than likely open and if his return is in two months that they can say they were correct and the same goes if it’s after the qualifiers as they can say they told us all back on 28 April. But essentially it’s a guess than the most likely outcome will be proven correct.
And anyway they know fine well that no-one will ever remember.
