Hakšabanović and Siegrist injury puzzlers ahead of Hampden trip

Ange Postecoglou often remains coy over injuries, refusing to give exact return dates. The manager takes his side to Hampden to face Kilmarnock this weekend as he looks to secure a return to the National Stadium to retain the trophy. Sead Haksabanovic and Benjamin Siegrist have been out of the first team squads for the last few games. With the League Cup Semi-Final on Saturday, both players will have likely been extremely keen to be involved.

After picking up a knock, the forward has been missing over the last few weeks. The ex-Rubin Kazan winger won the Cinch Premiership Player of the Month Award for November but has played just over 50 minutes since Celtic returned to action after the World Cup. Ahead of the game at Ibrox, Ange said that the player had been training at 100% but would be back soon. However, there was no update relating to the Kilmarnock game at the weekend.

Benjamin Siegrist

The Swiss goalkeeper has started the last two games in the League Cup, the away wins over both Ross County and Hamilton. Ordinarily, you would expect that the Cup goalkeeper is retained as the season progresses. However, Siegrist has been absent in the last two games with Scott Bain being the goalkeeper present on the bench. Indeed it was the 4-0 away win in the final game of 2022 that Siegrist was last involved in sparking whether he will start on Saturday.

It’ll be interesting to see whether both players are involved at the weekend and what Ange says about both at his upcoming media conference.
