Happy Birthday To The Evil Genius

It’s hard to believe that Chris Sutton turns 47 today. It seems like yesterday that he was scoring goals in Europe, derby games and earning man of the match awards from the front line, midfield and in defence.

Sutton was one of the best players Celtic has had in the modern era. His versatility and football brain was remarkable, so much so that Henrik Larsson describes him as his best strike partner – high praise from a man who has played for Barcelona and Manchester United!

The evil genius won the English Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and also earned himself the golden boot award for his EPL exploits. Part of the deadly SAS (Sutton and Shearer), Sutton signed for Celtic after a spell at Chelsea and never looked back. His list of honours with Celtic include three SPL titles, three Scottish Cups and a League Cup. Sutton was also part of the famous Seville team, whilst he won the treble with Celtic upon joining the club.

The striker scored some huge goals for Celtic. Who could forget his chip over Klos to complete the green and white wash in 2004? Or his stunning volley against Juventus, the headers in Amsterdam and Lancashire against Ajax and Blackburn? The memories are endless.

These days the Englishman is a football pundit, who often covers Scottish football and has been known to make some hilarious comments mocking Celtic’s rivals.

We wish him many happy returns.
