It looks almost certain that Danish midfielder Oliver Abildgaard will leave Celtic this month. The player is on a season-long loan at Celtic from Russian side Rubin Kazan and reports last week coming out of Russia was that moves were being made to end his time in Glasgow early due to the lack of game-time.
Oliver Abildgaard has yet to start a competitive match for Celtic but has been brought off the bench on nine occasions. He was also an unused substitute in Celtic’s two most recent matches at Easter Road and Ibrox.
Abildgaard had been estranged from Rubin Kazan due to the political situation caused by Russian aggression towards Ukraine. He had been training alone back home in Denmark before the loan deal to Celtic was arranged and it didn’t take Celtic long to appreciate that the player would need time to get match fit, with the Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou repeatedly stating that it would be after the break for the World Cup before we’d see the best of Abildgaard.
Celtic certainly have been good for Abildgaard in terms of him achieving match fitness and that will stand him in good stead as his agent Christian Henriksen has confirmed.
Speaking to Danish media outlet bold.dk via Insidefutbol, Henriksen confirmed the improvement in fitness levels and also the need to secure a move away from Celtic to get more playing time.
“Due to an injury and the situation in Russia, Oliver had not trained with a club before he joined Celtic at the beginning of September,” Henriksen stated. “Now we have spent these four months getting him back to top form.
He is at the top of all physical tests at Celtic, so we know he is totally fit and now we must find a place for him to play until the summer because he has to get playing time. It is the most important thing.”
On the situation at Celtic, as things stand, the player’s agent believes that it is unsustainable. “Everyone knows that it is unsustainable when you don’t play, so we are looking at what will happen next. We must of course find a solution in this window,” Henriksen concluded.
So it looks like Celtic have got Oliver Abildgaard fit and ready to play but due to the intense competition in the Celtic squad for midfield places with the likes of the wonderful Reo Hatate – who sure is good enough – Callum McGregor, Aaron Mooy, Matt O’Riley and David Turnbull – now free from suspension – all competing for places then it’s hard to Abildgaard getting the nod in the starting eleven for Celtic.
Hopefully Christian Henriksen will sort out a deal that suits all parties and we certainly wish Oliver Abildgaard all the very best.
With the greatest respect, this guy has nothing to offer Celtic.
