“He wants a Celtic move and is pushing hard for it” – Shane Duffy dismisses West Ham & West Brom

CELTIC are in pole position to sign Brighton defender Shane Duffy according to a former Deputy Sports Editor. Andy Ridgwell still has his ear to the ground in and around English football and he’s delivered some bad news this afternoon to supporters of both West Brom and West Ham telling them that the tough tackling Irish centre back is “not interested in a move’ to either club before claiming that the player knows exactly where he want to play his football this season.

“He wants a Celtic move and is pushing hard for it,” Ridgwell reports.

This news comes on the back of the leak to the Herald/Glasgow Times that revealed that Kristoffer Ajer’s agent has asked Celtic how much they want for a transfer to allow the unsettled Norwegian to get a move. He’d better hope that the various scouts around Europe weren’t watching his absolutely comical defending – which none of us found funny – at the first Ferencvaros goal.

Duffy, who Brendan Rodgers tried to sign for Celtic in the summer of 2016 before the Irishman was sold by Blackburn to Brighton, will represent a major upgrade in the Celtic back-line and added to the signing of David Turnbull earlier today, will assist in the re-building of the season which is now going to be without Champions League participation yet again due to atrocious August shenanigans – yet again – at our football club.

If Ajer is sold surely the Duffy deal can be on a permanent contract and not on a short term season long loan?

What is clear is that Neil Lennon, having called out the want-aways last night, needs to take decisive action in terms of team selection in the short term and moving the lot of them on before the window closes on 5 October.
