“He was huge with the fans, I believe they will get it over the line,” Petrov on imminent Jota deal

Former Celtic hero Stiliyan Petrov has urged Celtic to conclude the deal with Benfica and the player himself to make Jota a fully fledged Celtic player as soon as possible, as the entire Celtic support await white smoke coming from Paradise.

The former Celtic midfielder, a star in Martin O’Neill’s tremendous Celtic side two decades ago, has been mightily impressed by Ange Postecoglou’s transfer window successes so far and urges the club to continue to back him as the Australian looks towards making significant progress on the European stage this season.

Winning the Scottish Premiership last season gave Celtic an automatic place in the Group stages of the Champions League and it’s too good an opportunity for Celtic to squander through an over cautious summer in the transfer market.

“What’s really exciting to see is Ange Postecoglou take his time to recruit players, I think he recruited well last season and at the moment its important to get the right players for the right positions because the Champions League is right round the corner,” Petrov notes.

“He has to be ready and he knows if he wants to play well, if he wants to preach the football that he did last season, he has to have the right quality players this season, and he will do that because it seems like the fans and the board believe in his judgement.”

Regarding the lack of a permanent signing of Celtics star of last season, Jota, Petrov continued: “He was an important player last season, he was huge with the fans, I believe they will get it over the line, he will be part of that team again because the excitement he brings in that team is different, he brings a different side when he plays for Celtic altogether. It seems like he’s not done yet,” the former Celtic star added.
