Heartfelt farewell from Lagerbielke ahead of Celtic return

Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke is expected to leave Celtic this summer; however, the Swedish Internationalist penned an emotional farewell to FC Twente before he returns to Lennoxtown for pre-season.

Lagerbielke signed for Celtic after being recommended to the club by Carl Starfelt’s agent, who switched that summer to La Liga side Celta Vigo. The £3m switch was expected to be a replacement for his compatriot, with Maik Nawrocki also arriving in the summer. However, the Swedish central defender made just ten appearances as well as scoring one goal – the win against Feyenoord in the UCL.

This prompted Lagerbielke to make the move to make the switch to FC Twente, in a move that replaced Robbin Propper.

The 25-year-old is expected to leave the club on a permanent basis and it was expected that the Dutch side would make the deal permanent, given that he impressed in 32 appearances for the club, scoring twice and assisting on three occasions.

Celtic will look to recoup the £3m that they paid for the defender but it remains to be seen whether he goes back to Twente or not.
