There was a flurry of transfer activity at Celtic Park just two weeks ago when Carl Starfelt, Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada all signed within a week of each other; and if rumours are to be believed, then another avalanche could occur at Celtic Park this week.
With Joe Hart seemingly set to waltz through the Paradise doors sooner rather than later and a deal for Aurelio Buta in the balance, it seems the board are finally preparing to back Ange Postecoglou with money of their own in the transfer market, instead relying on the windfall that Kristoffer Ajer brought to the club.
And it could be a hat-trick of signings this week, with defensive midfielder and Celtic fan James McCarthy could be set to join to enter the doors at Lennoxtown, according to social media rumours.
One user cryptically tweeted “James McCarthy better be good…”, leaving Celtic fans optimistic at the prospect of the Republic of Ireland midfielder signing for the club.
James McCarthy better be good…

Better yet, when Celtic fans almost wet them with excitement in the comments asking Gerry if the deal was done, he replied ‘So I’ve heard’, signalling that he believed the transfer shouldn’t be far from being announced.
It would mark a sensational bit of transfer business from Celtic. Born in Glasgow but representing Ireland due to his grandfather hailing from Donegal, McCarthy made a name for himself having started his career in the youth setup at Hamilton – although his career could have started at Paradise earlier, as he was rejected from Lennoxtown due to the number of youth players Celtic already had.
Despite this, he enjoyed a stellar career at Wigan and Premier League giants Everton, before moving to Crystal Palace after an injury ravaged final few years on Merseyside. If he can keep his injury woes to a minimum – which he proved in the 2019-20 season with Crystal Palace – then it would mark a sensational piece of business from Ange and co. Let’s hope it comes to fruition!
You suggest there are two different pots of money: (1) transfer income and (2) the board’s “money of their own”. Who needs the MSM myth-makng when this kind of mixed-up rhetoric is within our own circles. It’s all the same money. The board don’t fund Celtic. Too many fan sites fuelling exactly the kind of thing that Keevins and his ilk are happy to pounce on.
If McCarthy is fit – top signing. Long overdue.
