Congratulations to Grant Scott and his Hibernian Women team on winning the SWPL1 title yesterday afternoon at Ibrox, getting the better theRangers who were looking to win the final day showdown to give them their second trophy of the season and set up a chance for a Treble this Sunday when they take on Glasgow City in the Women’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.

Last summer Hibs brought Grant Scott back to the club, having previously won the Scottish title and Scottish Cup for the Easter Road side. Scott’s summer recruitment was excellent, but he certainly didn’t have anywhere near the biggest budget – that would have been either theRangers and Glasgow City. He didn’t even have the best players or the depth of squad that other teams had – including last season’s Champions Celtic FC Women.

Here’s what the official Hibernian website says about their title winning manager.
‘Upon his return, Scott has once again successfully forged a positive dressing room culture, crafted a playing squad driven by success and implemented an entertaining brand of attacking football in EH7.
‘Seeing success as a coach at Hearts, St Johnstone and Glasgow City in the SWPL, as well as Durham in the FA Women’s Championship, Scott’s knowledge of the Scottish — and wider Women’s game — knows little bounds.
‘Scott’s experience and personability is a real asset to Hibernian.’
Successfully forged a positive dressing room culture – Did that happen at Celtic FC Women this season?
Crafted a playing squad driven by success – Did that happen at Celtic FC Women this season?
Implemented an entertaining brand of attacking football – Did that happen at Celtic FC Women this season?
Experience and personability is a real asset – Did Celtic FC Women have that this season?
That’s why Hibs are Champions.

Fourth favourites going into the season Grant Scott said his side was running on empty yesterday at Ibrox, but they got their winner and actually won the title in a canter. Glasgow City beat Hearts to leapfrog theRangers under Jo Potter to deny them European football next season and Celtic FC Women beat Motherwell 6-0 at Celtic Park to move up from 5th to finish 4th in the SWPL1 table.
At the start of the season it was regarded pretty much as a three horse race and at the finishing post Celtic finished 4th. They played very well yesterday, had they played like that throughout the split they could easily have defended their title so their must be a major inquest into the worst performance from a Celtic side in a season since the club went professional.
What was happening in our dressing room? Where was our playing style? Why couldn’t we win big games? Hibs beat theRangers three times this season, Celtic didn’t beat them once.

Many players will leave the club over the next few days. There will be a major reset this summer. Michael Nicholson was at Celtic Park yesterday as the Women’s team were putting on a show but it was too little way too late.
The Celtic CEO will have some big decisions to make on the funding for the women’s team and also on whether the squad rebuild is going to be handed to Elena Sadiku. That was her first full season as a manager and it has been far from successful. Are there mitigating circumstances to allow her the chance to turn things around? That’s a call for the CEO.

Hibs showed the way last season. An experienced manager with a successful track record is surely the way Celtic FC Women has to go. Our summer transfer window last season hardly inspires confidence that this can be turned around under the current manager but that’s ultimately a call for Michael Nicholson to make.
Senior players are getting towards the end of their playing careers at Celtic and that too is a major problem for the club.
The standards this season fell way below what should be demanded by Celtic as an absolute minimum. Nowhere in both cups, unable to beat the top teams and needing a final day win to ‘secure’ 4th in the league is shocking.

Here are some photos from yesterday’s match at Celtic Park where it finished Celtic FC Women 6 Motherwell 0.

According to several internet sites with newspaper articles etc Grant Scott came back to be Hibs manager/head coach for a second time in May 2023 and so this was his 2nd season back and he earlier this year signed a 2 year extension. He has recruited well and also added last year’s captain to his coaching staff and also kept the core of his team together while adding some very good players from overseas and Scottish clubs. They came from 5th in 23/24 to 1st in 24/25 and are thought to be the 3rd highest funded team in SWPL behind GCW and Rangers with The Ghirls and Hearts equal 4th. There is a natural major turnover this summer with a lot of players at end of 2 year contracts and I suspect we’ll see half a dozen or more go then depends if the club spends the money Sadiku’s team won for getting into UWCL groups. For me time to support Sadiku and her squad rather than sniping comment every couple days. For info Fran Alonso dead last in USA league and then “sacked/resigned” and 1 above relegation in Spanish league in next job (not sure if they’ll sack him or not) at Deportivo ABANCA in LIGA F which also ended this weekend
Sadiku has to go. She has clearly lost the dressing room and has no style or tactics s to mention
She won the league with Alonso’s team and her recruit.ent has been dire apart from Emma Lawton who I feel for. Kelly Clark needs to retire and ship out those not good enough whi h is a fair few. Nicholson showing his face yesterday was a joke as he underfunded the team year after year. Sevco have no money but outspeed us. Work that out if you can. We need a proven manager not a total rookie. Ni holson over to you but I won’t hold my breath in you having a clue what to do. You are also well out of your depth too.
Anyone with even a basic knowledge of football can see that Sadiku is not maximising the squads strengths or minimising its weaknesses , in fact her team selections and formations show she is a typical rookie fantasist and unwilling to learn from ,well i was going to say her mistakes but she never recognises or accepts any error on her part so no wonder that things haven’t improved since the beginning of the season , she has to go and the sooner the better , Hail hail .
