It might not be Martin O’Neill’s big farewell after all, as he indicated pre-match that he could be in charge come Wednesday night when we face Dundee at Celtic Park…

Regardless, he continued his good run by leading Celtic to an absolutely crucial victory at Easter Road this afternoon.
Celtic certainly weren’t at our best, far from it, but after Thursday night’s gruelling game in Rotterdam, it’s a win and three points we will take every day of the week.

Two quick fire goals by Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels in the first half proved to be the difference in the end, after Martin Boyle pulled one back via the Penalty spot early in the second half. Although it was a dubious call all the same. Liam Scales told Sky Sports in his post-match interview with Callum McGregor that he thought it would go to VAR and end up being given so there can’t be too many complaints
That made the last half an hour or so extremely nerve wracking to say the least, as the home side tried to take advantage of Celtic’s tiredness from Thursday night.

Kasper Schmeichel all too often criticised, deserves great praise for pulling off a couple of great stops towards the end, as Hibs tried in vain for an equaliser, with supporters of their Edinburgh rivals no doubt cheering them on for once.
However, thankfully we held on and earned a hard fought three points. Three points that sees us only two points behind leaders Hearts with a game in hand.

Celtic of course host the Jambos at Celtic Park next Sunday, so three points this afternoon was very welcome indeed. Before that Celtic take on Dundee on Wednesday night at Celtic Park in what should be Martin O’Neill’s last match in charge. If that is the case, we’ll want to give him an unbelievably good send-off and of course yet another three points. Hearts, incidentally are at home to Kilmarnock in midweek.
