Hibs closing in on signing midfielder that Celtic were said to have watched

Hibs look set to announce the signing of highly-rated youngster Reuben McAllister, who Celtic were credited with having an interest in. According to Fabrizio Romano, the youngster will be a Hibs player after tempting him North. McAllister’s father, Jamie, has recently taken up the role of Assistant Manager at Hibernian. McAllister came through the ranks with Bristol and he has progressed into their U23s set-up.

Hibs are said to have made a £100k offer for the 16-year-old. Which is quite an outlay for a young player. Celtic, Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa were credited with an interest in the player, as too were Newcastle United, Leicester City, Brighton and Rangers. However, it appears that the player has made his move to Edinburgh. According to a report from Football Scotland, the Scottish Champions were keen on the player. Albeit, Celtic have clearly decided against pursuing the player.

The player was on a two-year scholar’s contract and Bristol City were keen to monitor his progress with a view to taking his game forward. However, with his father relocating to Scotland, McAllister has decided to take the next step in his career with Hibs.

Ange Postecoglou has spoken about bridging the gap between the B Team and the first team and it would be interesting to see if a raft of young players come into the team in order to bolster the second team. McAllister will not be one of these players as he looks to ply his trade with Hibs.
