Hibs getting a bumper 7000 tickets for Scottish Cup quarter-final tie at Celtic Park, on the same day talks begin about letting away supporters back in for the Glasgow Derby…

Hibs could be backed by up to a whopping 7000 supporters at next Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter final showdown at Celtic Park after being handed a generous allocation of briefs.

Hibs have taken 7000 tickets for Paradise

In line with Scottish Cup rules travelling clubs can request a much high percentage of tickets compared to league fixtures, and Easter Road chiefs have taken full advantage of that by asking Celtic for extra briefs after selling out their initial allocation of 2,667.

Celtic kindly obliged and handed over an extra 5,000 briefs which the Easter Road club will now be fully responsible for shifting them to their support. They cannot return unsold tickets so it is a leap of faith by Hibs, showing some ambition and optimism no doubt fuelled by their recent win over Celtic.

Great atmosphere guaranteed at Celtic Park

I’m sure the Hibs support will respond and sell out the biggest allocation for away support at Celtic Park in many a year.  Hibs have a decent sized fan base, and it will certainly make for a good atmosphere in what has the makings of a cracking cup tie. Live on TV, capacity crowd, big away support, it’s what football’s all about.

Ironically the very same day talks began between Celtic and theRangers officials over an away allocation for the forthcoming Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park.

Never easy dealing with theRangers

2,500 briefs are expected to be offered to the Ibrox supporters with the Celtic supporters getting the same for the last Derby fixture of the season at Ibrox in what will be a massive boost to those who enjoy the away day experience. The issue will be that they will look for a similar percentage at each ground, arguing that this is how UEFA do things in their competitions. However the last time I checked it was the SPFL and not UEFA running the Scottish Premiership and Celtic are perfectly correct to be offering the same number of tickets as we get at Ibrox, up to a maximum of 7500 each.

What next? Motherwell demanding 30k tickets for Celtic Park?

Bringing their formula into the rules would mean for instance that Motherwell could demand 30,000 tickets for Celtic Park or if Livingston came back up they could ask for 50,000 tickets given the 10% of away support we take to their grounds.

That’s enough for us to fill the Free Broomloan post split and it also lets thousands more of them see their new Messiah Barry Ferguson’s first game against Celtic in a Glasgow Derby in a few weeks time.

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.
