Highlights as Celtic duo play in Scotland friendly, Tierney scores in 1-1 draw

Celtic duo Callum McGregor and Greg Taylor played in Thursday night’s Scotland friendly against Poland at Hampden.

Kieran Tierney scored for Scotland but the visitors scored an injury-time penalty as the game ended 1-1. John McGinn’s excellent cross from a free-kick was powered into the back of the net by Tierney as he scored his first goal for his country.

Taylor was replaced by a former Lennoxtown kid, Aaron Hickey, after 66 minutes. Shortly afterward, former Celtic hero Kieran Tierney headed Scotland into the lead. Hickey, who left Celtic for Hearts in 2018, made his debut following another excellent season in Serie A with Bologna.

Callum McGregor was able to take a breather after another industrious performance in the middle of the park. In what is par for the course for the Celtic skipper, he was excellent in the centre of midfield once again. A quality footballer and an excellent leader. With Ibrox next Sunday, Ange Postecoglou will be hoping that the International team do not rely upon his captain in their next game – likely to be in Vienna against Austria.

Scotland will play Ukraine at some stage – hopefully once Russia withdraws and Ukraine overcomes – with a view to progressing the World Cup. Footballing is way down the list of the priorities in Kyiv and FIFA/UEFA should do all they can to make sure that the Ukrainians are accommodated during this awful time.
