“His all-round performance was superb,” Taylor Talks Up Welsh

Stephen Welsh scored his first ever goal for Celtic on Saturday in his Man of the Match performance and the young central defender has also been getting praise from his teammates who have been as impressed as the Celtic support has been with the youngster. Here are the highlights from the weekend’s 2-1 win over Motherwell.

Greg Taylor reckons that Welsh has been outstanding since breaking into the Celtic first team. “His all-round performance was superb, just the same as last Wednesday at Kilmarnock,” Taylor told the official Celtic site. “He’s done superbly, really good. It was a terrific goal that he scored with a great delivery from David Turnbull and Welshy did really well.

“Welshy is not a quiet lad. Even at the start of the season. He leads and he talks. That is definitely beneficial for him and that is the reason he is doing so well at the moment.”

Taylor himself probably had his best game in a Celtic shirt at the weekend with Jonjoe Kenny also impressing on the other side of the pitch. Taylor reckons that the Motherwell tactics allowed the two Celtic full-backs to be prominent in the match, much to his own delight!

“The way that Motherwell set up meant there was space on the sides, so myself and Jonjoe had quite a lot of the ball and we created a few opportunities,” the Scotland international defender said.

“It was important to build on the victory at Kilmarnock, so it was an important win. Until Motherwell scored, I thought it was a really good performance with full control.

“But if you don’t finish off your chances, any game when it goes to 2-1 can become nervy. But the boys dug in and held on well. We’ve won a couple of games in a row but at a club of this size, you need to be winning every game and we’ve not done that enough this season.”
