Hugh MacDonald: Carl Starfelt will leave Celtic this summer

Journalist, Hugh MacDonald has revealed he believes that Swedish defender Carl Starfelt will leave Celtic this coming summer transfer window. The Scottish football pundit and commentator was on PLZ Soccer in the aftermath of Celtic winning this year’s League Cup against Mick Beale’s side.

Starfelt has been a key component since he arrived at Celtic Park and has built a formidable partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers in the central defensive position, with Joe Hart bolstering the triangle in goals. Ange would surely be reticent to sanction a deal for the former Rubin Kazan man, but as we’ve seen with Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis, he never gets too attached to his players.

With rumoured English Premier League interest in his defensive partner Cameron Carter-Vickers, perhaps the Celtic boss may view that this summer is the right time to sell Starfelt and avoid losing the USA international. As with all the players the Hoops sign, there is a natural progression to their career at Parkhead which is in fitting with the strategy in the transfer market.

Celtic need to be agile and aggressive moving forward as the manager himself has asserted on several occasions during his time at Paradise. Well, Hugh MacDonald has come out and stated his belief that this coming close season would be the ideal time to sell the big Swede as his stock will the at a premium price after this campaign.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer with Alan Rough and Peter Martin, the Scottish scribbler revealed his thoughts on Carl Starfelt departing Glasgow’s East End this summer transfer window, saying: “That will be the right time to sell him because we know there’s clubs looking at him in England.”

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. If Hugh McDonald istrying to get the Celtic fans excited, he’s doing a good job!
Starfelt always has been, is,and always will be the weakest link in the back line. He is a bombscare who has the ocassional good game. We let Moritz Jenz, a vastly superior player in every single aspect of the game, slip through our fingers and kept a liability in Starfelt.
While there is zero hope an EPL team will want him, I hope someone does.
The only way Starfelt will see the EPL is on tv, or if he gets a ticket to a game.

  2. It sure is a funny old world in football. We have ” pundits” trying too sell as many Celtic players as they can.! ,but they praise sevco players who are worth ( their opinion) up to40 million pounds( alll laugh now) and none of them ever mention ” for sale””.!!! Ange has the knowhow too swat these imature reporter’s out of the way with his own easy way, but they are that thick they keep asking the same stupid questions.Last week it was the ibrokes squad shouting their mouths off this week a St Mirren player is doing the same thing, do these people never learn? So go on CELTS, go to Paisley and stick a few in the rigging. 5 – 1 to CELTS. HAIL HAIL
