Hyeokkyu Kwon’s low-key start to his time at Celtic

What’s the story with Kwon?…

One of our summer signings Hyeokkyu Kwon is something of a missing man at the moment. Signed from South Korean side Busan Ipark in the summer the midfielder has somewhat flown under the radar in his first few months at Celtic.

He made a few pre-season appearances for the first team and has recently played for the B team but his chances of appearing in the first team squad look pretty slim at this moment in time. Kwon is competitive midfielder and he has the physique standing 6ft 3 inches tall, something we lack presently, but it looks as if he’s out of Brendan’s plans at the moment.

To be fair to the midfielder he’s settling in to a new country and he was playing lower tier football in his native South Korea, so it is something an adjustment and step up for him. But as we know you don’t get time at this football club, you’re judged fairly quickly.

Maybe a few more months settling in will do Kwon the world of good, maybe even a loan deal? It is possible. He’s just got to put the hard work in and believe in himself. Liam Scales is a perfect example of that. Time will tell if Kwon has a future at the club, or if he’ll be just another flop project signing, hopefully it’s the former.
