“I keep saying it, we need more players to support the ones we have,” Postecoglou’s Plea

“I keep saying it, we need more players to support the ones we have. Some of them are putting in enormous shifts,” Ange Postecoglou said after the 3-2 cup win over Hearts that sets up a home tie in the quarter finals against Raith Rovers, who knocked out Aberdeen after going from a goal behind to win 2-1.

Look at that sentence again – “I KEEP SAYING” is an enormous message to the Celtic Board from the Australian who is doing his bit by getting the Celtic show back on the road after last season’s derailment but he needs their backing – ARE YOU LISTENING, DOM?

Then this: “SOME OF THEM ARE PUTTING IN ENORMOUS SHIFTS”…translated helpfully for the Celtic Board. “It’s maybe working now but to be sustained and improved Ange needs to players in that he’s asking for.”

“It was great getting James McCarthy some game time,” Ange added, pointing out the value of the recruitment that has already occurred.  “With the mistakes, they don’t have to happen but unfortunately that’s the position we’re in at the moment,” he added, returning to the theme of needing players. A game that could have been 5 or 6 nil ended up 3-2 because the squad isn’t stag enough, as the players he wants haven’t walked through the door yet.

“Hopefully getting a few more players in will allow us to maintain the standard for 90 minutes,” the Australian Stein added.  “That’s football. I said to the players after the game, it’s how this game keeps you honest. If your standards drop a little bit, then you can very well be punished.”
