“I needed time to assess the team and to evaluate,” Nancy’s reason for early Celtic arrival

Wilfried Nancy says the scheduling of his arrival at Celtic was designed to give him an early opportunity to evaluate his options ahead of the January transfer window…

With the January market approaching, the Frenchman has now overseen five matches, allowing him to build a clearer picture of where reinforcements may be required. That assessment was helped by his first win in charge on Sunday afternoon, a much-needed 3–1 victory against a ten-man Aberdeen.

While acknowledging that a later start might have been personally more comfortable given the demanding fixture list, Nancy said the decision was made in the club’s best interests rather than his own.

Asked if he now has clarity on his priorities heading into January, he responded via Celtic’s official YouTube channel: “Yes, that’s why I came at this moment. I could have come a little bit later. But now, with the club, we decided that it was the moment because I needed time to assess the team and to evaluate. So if I was thinking about myself, maybe I could have been a little bit later.”

“But the timing is the timing. So that’s why I accept all the things that happened. This is new for me to have four losses. This is new for the players to have four losses.”

“Again, we have to go through that to see what we have to do. The character of the team, the personality of the team, the personality of the players, and so on, and so on, and so on.”

“As I said, I analyse the team. After that, we’ll see what we need. And my first job is to analyse the players, what we have here. And after that, we’ll see who we’re going to bring, if we need to bring someone.”

Celtic now have a week to prepare for their away trip to bottom of the league Livingston as they try and build momentum heading into crucial matches against Motherwell at Fir Park and then theRangers at the start of next year.

  1. If we need to bring someone in. Not exactly what I want to hear. If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.

  2. My own personal preference was to keep the MoN and Maloney partnership in place, till after the cup final. Can understand Nancy coming in earlier, to gain the extra time required upon evaluation, especially with the injury list as it is, and the amount of decision making involved, in trying to handle the January window alone?

Although results haven’t been to our liking generally, there was a demand for change within our club. Now the change has arrived, there still seems to be unrest surrounding such change?
This despite playing some of our best attacking football in some time for ourselves imo.
The downside is our current team set up, will allow chances to be handed up to the opposition. In turn, we are missing so many chances, throughout the team, by being nowhere clinical enough in front of goal.
So unfortunately the balance is nowhere near correct at present between those 2 elements of our game?

Thinking they are all going to be resolved in January, is nothing more than nonsense.
The amount of factors involved, with an injury list as it is in operation, is going to make the decision making for Nancy, possibly the hardest any manager is facing, come the mid season point imo?

Even without the injury list, there are a number of issues that have to be considered, for Nancy in his decision making process.?

The europa league campaign this season?
That will involve only 3 changes to our original squad, that was named, and in place?
So, way more question marks than 3, remains in place regarding players within the original 24 named?
Regardless, there’s still 2 more games to play, if we intend to be looking to progress in the competition, at the back end of January?
So letting players GO, will possibly not going to option until late in the window, with ourselves not in a position to, with the injury list as it is imo?
Of course we could just give up on the europa league campaign this season, but how would that look, in trying to attract the quality of player we are hoping for?

It tends to get overlooked, the importance of our 8 homegrown quota requirements, which is nose diving year on year, without suitable development in place for ourselves?
This factor alone, covers a third of our playing squad, and just how many now, are suitable for retaining a squad place, within our current set up of the team?

Wouldn’t class ralston as a great option within a 3 man defence imo? Worse that Murray is showing no signs still of making a claim for the position available?
Would question the recovery speed of Tierney within a 3 man defence? Especially with showing far better in an attacking sence, than defensive duties imo?
How much longer are we going to depend upon Calmac and forrest? Could Calmac even fancy the massive pay day to finish off his career in the desert?
McCowan seems to be better suited to the new team set up, even if he’s possibly limited within European football imo?
And is Doohan ready to set up as a no2 keeper potentially next season moreso?
Donovan is our brightest prospect, even if he remains as a B list player, for next season also? Unsure at present if the right of a 3, is going to be his best role, especially with showing the same signs of Tierney, with being more beneficial in an attacking sence than defensively imo?
Yet where are the other homegrown players going to come from, fit into our team set up, if changes are made to our current homegrown quota requirements?

All that, without the amount of want away players, that could be in operation?
Still say that number is above 3 at present imo?

So we as supporters can continue to play the blame game, of what has gone on within our club, over this entire calendar year?
Strange outlook, when no-one actually knows what went on behind closed doors?

Yet Nancy deserves far more respect for what he is hoping to achieve, especially with the amount of circumstances that he is left with trying to finding the amount of solutions to imo?

All of them solutions won’t be found in January alone, and think it’s a ridiculous expectation, to be expected also upon him imo?

  3. Strange method of assessing.
    Immediately implementing his system.
    Result 4 defeats.
    In God we trust.
    With Wilfried we sweat.
    🙏🏻🙏🏻 results improve.
    Hail Hail.
