Ibrox supporter’s delusions but there’s a frosty reality check from the North East as the Northern Lights shine brightly…
It’s well known that theRangers supporters are probably the biggest set of delusional supporters the game has ever known. Their delusions know no bounds and just when you think you’ve seen it all, they come up with something that still makes you shake your head and question their sanity once more.
Users of social media sites will know exactly what I’m talking about. Celtic supporters often go trawling in the murky world of their forums in the search of some entertainment, and they again swooped on yet another rib tickler. According to an account by the handle of Kensington Blue, if you were asked to make a combined XI from the two Glasgow clubs, it would be 6-5 in the Ibrox sides favour!
According to this blue-nose the likes of Jack Butland, James Tavernier, Ridvan Yilmaz, John Souttar, Connor Barron, and Vaclav Cerny would make the cut ahead of the likes of Kasper Schmeichel, Alistair Johnston, Greg Taylor, Auston Trusty, Arne Engles, and Daizen Maeda.
Yes it certainly gave me a good laugh too. Proven winners omitted for serial losers. Whatever makes them happy I suppose, you could probably buy FC25 cheaper than the £1 coin Craigy Whyte paid for Kensington Blue’s former ‘club’ back in 2012.
The harsh reality for the Govanites is that not one of their players would be good enough to get into the Celtic starting eleven. If that is bad enough consider this. How many of theRangers players would even get into Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen side?
Like Celtic they are unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership with 11 games played and are second in the table behind Celtic only on goal difference. Both have a massive nine points advantage over theRangers who are the lowest scores in away matches in the entire league.
Philippe Clement, the Belgian manager of theRangers has seen his side lose at Celtic Park, Pittodrie and Rugby Park as well as dropping two points against Hearts at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season.
I doubt if Aberdeen supporters would collate a team consisting of their own players and Clement’s that they’d be selecting many from theRangers. That’s closer to reality that six Ibrox players making it into a Celtic/theRangers eleven.
Aberdeen would have more difficulty trying to pick a Celtic/Aberdeen combined team, especially after the recent Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden which Celtic won convincingly by 6-0.
That’s not to say that Celtic won’t have difficulties when visiting Pittodrie at the start of next month and then Ibrox early in January 2025. These will be significant matches in the and ones that Brendan Rodgers and his squad will relish.
With only two Champions League places up for grabs next season, this season’s Champions go straight into the Group stages while the runners up will have their chance via the qualifiers, the big question in Scottish football is can Aberdeen split the big two from Glasgow?
Celtic winning the league and Aberdeen finishing second would be a huge financial blow for theRangers. Things are certainly getting interesting in the Scottish Premiership.
