‘I’m here to be a Champion and win trophies,’ Youssouf Mulumbu

YOUSSOUF MULUMBU made his debut for Celtic at Rugby Park on Sunday and certainly showed himself to be more up for the fight than most of his teammates on what was a very disappointing day.

Now the 31 year old has revealed that joining Celtic can help him achieve the success in the game that has so far eluded him. Speaking to the new edition of the Celtic View the combative midfielder confirmed that he is relishing the challenge of playing for a big club like Celtic and is relishing the opportunity to hunt down honours from his time at the Champions.

“Joining Celtic means for the first time in my life I will be able to compete to be a champion and win trophies,” Mulumbu said.

“This is what motivates me to work harder and I want to be part of this.

“For your career it’s very important for a football player to win something before he retires.

“I’m 31-years-old and sometimes you feel you’re old and you’ve missed opportunities. When things don’t go right and people are just asking questions the best way to answer it is on the pitch.

“Right now my aim is to show the gaffer that, if he needs me, I’ll be ready. This is why I need to be ready for every game and in training. To provide cover or another option.

“That is what I’m here for. I’m excited to be part of this team. I know there are so many things that will be amazing for us.”

Certainly Mulumbu will have done his chances of winning a place in the team no harm by his attitude and his performance on Sunday. Maybe alongside Lewis Morgan who also looked lively when coming off the bench, these are the pluses from a disappointing day in Ayrshire.

What is going to be interesting is to see the Celtic response this evening when one of the 3 trophies Celtic have won for the past two seasons is at stake.

Ahead of Sunday’s game there were plenty of tickets floating around for those looking to get a rare chance to join the away support. For this evening’s game the opposite is true as ticketless Celtic fans are anxiously pushing any spares going.

The fightback begins at 7.45pm this evening at McDairmid Park in Perth…you can join in the conversation about tonight’s game on the St Johnstone v Celtic match thread on the new Celtic fans forum Celtic Noise…
