‘I’m in the best job in the world,’ Brendan’s hollow words – Rod Stewart is gutted

“I’m in the best job in the world,” Brendan Rodgers told Alan Brazil on a TalkSPORT interview last April. The Irishman was at that time linked with the job at Arsenal and went out of his way to say that while the Gunners were a great club he was the manager of Celtic, “I’m in the best job in the world.”

He is now leaving “the best job in the world,” not to join Arsenal but Leicester City, and as Rod Stewart points out very well in another interview on TalkSPORT from this morning, the timing is pretty much awful as far as The Celtic support is concerned.

As mentioned above, celebrity Celtic supporter Rod Stewart spoke to TalkSPORT this morning and stated that Rodgers had ruined his holiday.

“It’s ruined my holiday! I actually got a bit choked up I must admit,” Rod said.

“Obviously he was going to go sooner or later, but I would have thought he would have seen out the next two-and-a-half months and get the treble Treble if possible.

“I think there might be a lot of ill-feeling at Celtic now with the fans with him leaving us in the lurch. But I understand the point that the job has come up and he’s got to take it. But what about the Chelsea job?

Rod Stewart hit out at Brendan Rodgers on TalkSPORT this morning

“He could make a bit of history with hopefully the treble Treble.

“I appreciate Leicester but I just think Celtic’s in a different class. It might be a two-horse race up here, but as I keep saying… see the job OUT.

“It’s like me giving up halfway through a tour. It’s disappointing people. There’s going to be so many disappointed Celtic fans.

“I really am gutted. You’ve ruined my holiday Brendan!”

The 73 year old rock legend even admitted that he’d go down on his knees to beg Rodgers to stay at Celtic! He also welcomed the imminent appointment of Neil Lennon as an Interim appointment but suggested that another former manager Gordon Strachan would not fancy it, if asked. There were some Strachan rumours doing the rounds last night.

“Absolutely I’d be on my knees telling him to stay. We can make history and I just think it’s going to cause a lot of unhappiness with the Celtic supporters.

“Hopefully Scott Brown will step up and take command. I’ve heard Neil Lennon is coming back which is great, but that’s only temporary.

“I don’t think Gordon would want to go back. I was with him at the weekend and he’s quite happy to be out of Glasgow.

“But let’s just wait and see. I don’t think it’s definite yet so I’m waiting to hear from the top dogs at Celtic, so keeping my fingers crossed.”
