‘Incredible goalkeeping’, UCL account highlights vital Kasper Schmeichel save

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has been included in a UEFA Champions League official ‘Best Saves’ social media compilation. The Dane celebrated his 38th birthday as Brendan Rodgers side beat RB Leipzig 3-1 at Celtic Park.

With the game finely poised at 2-1, Schmeichel made a huge save to deny the Germans from pulling level through Baumgartner’s volley. In a post on Twitter, the UCL included the save amongst a highlight reel from around the grounds.

Moments later Reo Hatate made it 3-1 to consolidate Celtic’s lead, helping Brendan and the team to a memorable three points in Europe. The result means that Celtic have now won three UCL games on the bounce as well as having now played Pot 1 Home and Away as well as Pot 2 Away.

Celtic had to come from behind to get the three points against the Pot 1 team, which bolsters the chances of qualifying for the next stage. The team will enjoy the victory but having had a taste of it, they’ll be relishing the next game at the end of this month against Club Brugge.

  1. Some of those were very average or camera saves. Kasper’s actually was a very good save though
