Injury hit Celtic star makes big career call

Mikey Johnston is a player that promises so much but has failed to deliver consistently for Celtic, mainly due to recurring injury problems. Johnston enjoyed a period when Neil Lennon was in charge whereby he managed a run of games – including one at Ibrox where he set up Odsonne Edouard with a terrific through ball to help the Bhoys to victory.

Yet much of his time at Celtic Park has been spent on the treatment table over the past few years. Undoubtedly a fantastic talent on his day, sadly those days have been few and far between for the Scottish winger. Tricky, agile and with a superb turn of pace, it’s a crying shame that the player hasn’t been able to perform regularly for the club.

He is somewhat at a crossroads now, as Ange has admitted himself that he will not tolerate passengers. It’s a comply or die agenda that currently resides within the walls of Lennoxtown and Mikey is no exception to the rule on this one. Like teammate Albian Ajeti, if Johnston cannot show his worth then Postecoglou will surely look to ship him out.

But SunSport have now revealed the forward has switched agents lately, and joins fellow teammates and rivals in his new home. Avid Sports and Entertainment Group now boast his signature, as well as big-money flop Aaron Ramsey, Leon Balogun and fellow Hoops winger, James Forrest.

The 23-year-old still has time on his side and may benefit from a move away from Celtic Park this season. Still contracted until 2025, a season of rejuvenation in the SPFL outside of his comfort zone may well coax and coerce the best out of him again. His change of agent may well be to facilitate such a temporary move or we may be looking at waving goodbye to Mikey Johnston.

Either way, the saga looks like reaching its conclusion very soon/

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
