Interest in Maeda is unsurprising, Celtic’s priority is a new contract for Daizen

Interest in Daizen is unsurprising, but Celtic should be shunning any potential suiters and offering him a new deal as soon as possible…

Daizen Maeda is undoubtedly our biggest asset at this moment in time and will no doubt be attracting interest due to a phenomenal campaign not just domestically but in the UEFA Champions League too.

Jose Mourinho eyes summer move for Daizen Maeda

The rumour mill has suggested that the Japanese international is a target of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and if true then the club can start bracing themselves for a bid some time soon. However they must rebuff any interest unless it’s an offer they simply can’t turn down as Daizen is such a vital cog in this Celtic side.

Daizen is worth his weight in gold to the club due to his overall energy, commitment and goalscoring that have been a massive part of our success in the campaign just ended.

Celtic simply mustn’t entertain any offers for our most valuable player

Celtic simply mustn’t entertain any offers for our most valuable player and look to keep him as long as we possibly can, so the club should be looking to do all they can to keep him and that means offering him a new deal. Daizen should also be looking at Fenerbahce as a club in a roughly similar situation to Celtic, a big club outside the top five leagues. If he is going to entertain a Celtic exit is should be for a move to a top Champions League side from one of the top five leagues.

Celtic must do everything to keep Daizen through a lucrative new contract

Daizen is a decent guy and by all accounts he adores the club and the city. We’ve got to make the most of that and offer him an extended stay. He has to be shown the respect by the club of paying him the kind of wages that are given to our top earners. He has earned that has he not?

Our Player of the Year recently spoke about his unfinished business in the Champions League with Celtic. That was encouraging. Any concerns at his end over being undervalued – and underpaid – would be frustrating to say the least.
