International breaks are usually a pain but this one can benefit Celtic

International breaks are usually a pain in the backside with club football pushed aside for a short period in favour of the less appealing international matches, especially when the season has just not long kicked off.

But this one I reckon has come at a great time for this Celtic squad. Yes confidence is high after our terrific result at Ibrox on Sunday, but this short break could benefit us greatly. Although fingers crossed everyone comes back injury free from their various international obligations.

Most of our players will be away on international duty but the ones who aren’t can get hard to work on the training ground with Brendan Rodgers. It will give the new guys like Luis Palma if he isn’t away with Honduras, Nat Phillips and the returning Reo Hatate a chance to get further acquainted with the Irishman’s style.

Brendan will also welcome it as it gives him further time to assess his squad and his plans going forward especially with our Champions League group stage opener against Feyenoord just a fortnight away.

So the short break will benefit Celtic and set us up nicely for our double header against Dundee at home and Feyenoord away. With tricky trips to Motherwell and Livingston also coming up this month it will do us no harm to have some extra preparation time on the training fields at Lennoxtown working with the manager who will have a real spring in his step and a huge smile in his face after the weekend win over at Ibrox.
