Dermot Desmond throwing Brendan under the bus, just as well we are not all so gullible that we can’t see the truth…

Celtic supporters are waking up to the sensational news that Brendan Rodgers has resigned, with Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney taking interim charge. Furthermore there was even more for us to digest due to the parting shot from our absent Majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, who indulged in a character assassination of the outgoing Irishman.

Desmond and Brendan are known to have been close allies throughout the years, hence Brendan’s two spells at the club, but that friendship is surely now in tatters due to the billionaires savage response to the manager’s resignation.
According to Desmond, Brendan created a ‘toxic’ atmosphere around the club, blaming the outgoing manager for the hostility towards the board! I think that’s called throwing someone under the bus Dermot, we not so gullible as to believe your inappropriate rant on the official Celtic FC website where you have no business posting such a statement. You do not OWN Celtic, you are a minority shareholder and a non-executive director.

The Irish billionaire also claimed that the club offered Brendan a new deal, but if true, it’s understandable that he refused to commit to the club due to the interference from above and the lack of ambition. Brendan said ahead of the flag day match against St Mirren that he was not going to be a maintenance manager – he wanted to stay at an ambitious Celtic.
Desmond’s claim that made me chuckle was the one that Brendan had a say in all transfer dealings, Dermot must think we’re all stitched up the back if we believe that!
Let’s make things clear, I myself and many other Celtic supporters believe that Brendan had grown stale, and change was probably due, but for Desmond to assassinate his character like that just to try and save face, is bang out of order.

Let’s be clear Brendan Rodgers has done wonders for this club over his two spells in charge, and he deserved more than to have his name dragged through the mud in an attempt to deflect from the incompetence of those in charge, including Desmond himself. It wasn’t Rodgers who appointed Michael Nicholson into a job that he is clearly unsuited to and that has resulted in Celtic having no decent and fit strikers, two wantaways on Daizen and Yang who have been treated appallingly, no right winger other than the ageing James Forrest….
Desmond signed off by saying that Celtic is greater than any one person. If he believes that to be true then he himself should also stand aside, and take his lapdogs with him.

Lawwell never wanted Rodgers back and his puppet in the old fan media has been having digs and attacks continually since his return was announced. That’s all been done to order from above. Someone remarked at the inaugural meeting of the Celtic Fans Collective that the entire mess Celtic were dragging themselves into was caused by one guy sacking another’s son for being absolutely hopeless at his job.
And his minibus full of new signings, completely blowing the Jota windfall from Saudi Arabia, have made little o no impact on the Celtic team. Rodgers was given this £25m worth of ‘talent’ to work with yet they continually snide about wasting the same amount of money on Idah, Trusty and Engels. Do the sums on appearances, contributions and market values.
‘Mark’ my word, Brendan wins hands down.

Lawwell senior is a cunt.Mark Lawwell is a cunt.I want those lying bastard’s in the boardroom out my club. We have not reached rock bottom yet but when the rangers pump us on Sunday I’m not even sure if that will be rock bottom . Not another penny will be spent while they’re in power. #sack the board.
Roy Roger‘s football was rank. Only elite thing about him was his tan.
Good riddance. No fan of the board but I bet a pound to a pinch of shite, Desmond can back up his attack.
Unsure about the wisdom of baloney and the Blessed Martin but my cat would’ve been an upgrade on Roy; I have no cat
Nail hit perfectly on the head.
We all know Lawwell is a devious so-&-so – leaking stories over the years to suit his own agenda. ‘DD’s’ treacherous statement has his fingerprints all over it but it won’t wash.
For a start, claiming they backed Rodgers, when we all witnessed the summer transfer window debacle, is rubbish – and if things were as bad as ‘DD’ now claims, why didn’t they sack Rodgers long before now.
‘DD’s’ statement is disgracefully unprofessional. It stinks of a desperate attempt to get fans onside by putting all the blame on Rodgers – and hoping we fall for it … but not a chance.
The Board have continually treated the fans as mugs but this pathetic, treacherous, ‘statement’ is probably the lowest they have sunk. It just serves to emphasize, even more, how completely out of touch they are with fans.
Good article, what right Idd with regard to his statement, thinks he’s king of Celtic. As for the appointments, we’ll see soon enough.
Desmond and the board absolutely wanted Rodgers. No club was going to touch him after his last season here and the disaster at Leicester.
They saw an opportunity to get a manager that wasn’t going to ask for anything or rock the boat when they low balled transfer targets and over paid for complete nothings.
The problem for them was when it all started to fall to shit, Rodgers was always going to play to the fans to shift the blame for his awful brand of football.
Good riddance to him and the board when they install the next guy they can control.
Would like to hear the real story Eddie Howe would tell about why he didn’t take the job. I would bet he wanted guarantees on spending and caliber of players that would have cut into the shareholder’s cash grab.
Maloney or Broonie will be the board’s choice, ex players they feel they can bully and short change.
Clearly you are more a fan of BR than anyone else at Celtic Park – which you are of course quite entitled to. However under BR this year Celtic have played awful football, mitigating circumstances perhaps due to injuries, but there have definately been times when BR could have changed tactics or player choices – and didn’t – which then makes us decide who is telling the truth. Like you, I don’t believe that BR was ultimately responsible or gave approval for every signing, but again he did want Balikwisha, Engels, Bernardo, Trusty and many more – and in my opinion they have all been a waste of money – he chose Yang last week at Dundee and gave his reasons, which didn’t make any sense – Schmeical should have been replaced weeks ago and his distribution has given many teams that wee bit of a chance that they can do something against Celtic – but for me the main thing is Lawwell not wanting BR back, and I actually agree with Lawwell – although that is probably all I would be in agreement with him. I don’t think a manager returning for a second spell ever works out, and in a similar fashion I would therefore not be in favour of Ange returning. Maloney, and I realise he is only interim – is a terrible choice, done nothing at several English clubs or Hibs and will hopefully be out soon enough, I have to say that I was surprised Kennedy left along with BR incidentally, especially when Strachan stayed. So who do we try to go for, hopefully not Farke or Marsch – maybe the guy from Bodo ?? Is that Broony in the car park with DD ???
did gordon strachan veto the sacking of of his beloved son from the coaching staff..JUST ASKING,,,hh…
For a guy that is apparantly helping another club – Dundee, not sure if he is actually classed as a Director, WGS is somewhat of a presence at Celtic Park, it wouldn’t surprise me if your comment is actually true.
