It’s Howe or Never, Eddie – Hartson’s Time’s Up Warning for Celtic Managerial Frontrunner

John Hartson’s patience is starting to wear thin as Celtic remain without a manager for two months after Neil Lennon surprised no-one by admitting it wasn’t working out for him at Celtic. John Kennedy took the reins as the Interim Manager and with that came the opportunity to impress and make an strong case for himself to be considered a contender. That sadly has not proved to be the case, although the new manager will surely be open to keeping Kennedy on the coaching staff, should the former Celtic defender choose to stay at the club. He might have managerial ambitions to satisfy elsewhere.

Then there’s Eddie Howe – and the question everyone is asking is Howe come it’s taking this long?

Roy Keane has told friends he’s not getting the Celtic job. Jose Mourinho is rumoured to have been contacted but ruled himself out and none of the names from the continent that were mentioned have really mounted to much more that press speculation.

The evidence as we know it anyway all points to Celtic’s eggs all being in the one basket and that’s Eddie Howe’s. Dead knows what will happen if it all goes Pete Tong. Then there’s the players, several are being target, reports of signifiant bids being made and received. Some serious decisions will have to be taken soon while almost 60,000 Celtic Supporters sit at home waiting for the renewal details to arrive and the Celtic Trust continue to beat their drums about the lack of added value and the need for Celtic to compensate supporters for this season via a share issue.

The season ticket sales as we head towards May stand at zero when normally the process of selling out Celtic Park would have been well underway. It’s admirable in a way that Celtic have shown the necessary patience to get the best man for the job but this cannot go on much longer.

Big John Hartson for one is getting close to running out of patience with the former Bournemouth manager and via Go Radio as sent a message to Eddie Howe that the Celtic are a huge club on a global scale and that he should feel honoured to be the manager of our club. Hartson also reckons it’s getting close to Celtic calling time on the whole thing if Howe is not prepared to commit.

Imagine trying to sell season tickets without know when well get into a game and who the manager will be, never mind what the squad is going to look like come the start of next season. Remember that’s the season when the winners of the Scottish Premiership go straight into the Champions League.

“Eddie Howe is privileged to be so sought after by Celtic,” Hartson told Go Radio. “Celtic is a global club. Massive fanbase all around the world, it’s a magnificent job.

“Especially now because you’ve got a big challenge. The challenge is to topple (the)Rangers who have just won the Premiership.

“Celtic have to respond and they have to make sure they get the right man in.

“Eddie Howe is um-ing and ah-ing, maybe he’s decided he may well be going somewhere else. If he thinks he’s got Celtic in the bag and he’s holding out for something else coming up then Celtic need to move on.”
