It’s now or never – Time for Celtic to sign Lennon Miller

New Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has commented on speculation surrounding reported Celtic target Lennon Miller…

Celtic have reportedly held a long-standing interest in the young midfielder, who may be set for a transfer this summer. According to a report in Scottish Sun, Serie A side Como are set to make a move for the talented 19 year-old after noticing him while scouting Nicolas Kuhn last season.

Should Cesc Fabregas secure the services of Miller, he will be joined alongside former Hoops winger Kuhn who has agreed a £17.2 million deal to sign with the ambitious Italian top-flight side.

Since making his first-team debut two years ago at Fir Park, Miller has consistently stood out for Motherwell, racking up 39 appearances last season and earning his first senior Scotland cap in a 4-0 victory over Liechtenstein, where he delivered an impressive performance.

Speaking on Miller’s future yesterday, Askou remained calm around potentially losing his best player: “In general, there has been obviously a lot of interest and it’s busy around Lennon, nothing concrete right now, but it could change quickly,” he said via Daily Record.

“That’s a lot of interest, a lot of a lot of manoeuvring around the market around him. I think he’s dealing with it really, really well. He’s just playing football and really enjoying what we’re doing here.

“I spoke to him just an hour ago. He’s really pleased with the role he has in the team now and what we are trying to do because it suits him really, really well and he will develop. But we also know that the time will come when he will take the next step. And if it’s this summer, then the time will tell. But it could be.

Askou added: “It’s not like he’s knocking on my door every day and saying I need to leave. Not at all. But we know he’s a fantastic football player, a very, very big talent that you don’t see very often. So we know the day will come.

“We will announce that when it’s the right time to announce whether there’s something specific on him. But there’s a general interest from the market in Lennon, and there has been also before my time here, and that interest has not slowed down.

“It’s still there and it’s increasing more and more as clubs get more and more active. And obviously there are some other people also dealing with that within the club that maybe knows a little bit more than I do. And so when the time is right, we will announce.”

“Until then, we’ll try to just make sure that he gets the best opportunity to be part of Motherwell and perform for us and focus on his development.”

Whether it’s a move to Como, or elsewhere on the continent or perhaps even to Celtic if Brendan Rodgers is minded to follow up his previous interest in the talented Scotland midfielder, it’s clear that he will NOT be a Motherwell player for much longer.

Celtic’s chance is still there, but not for much longer, so if Lennon Miller is indeed a Brendan Rodgers target this summer, the time to move is approaching fast.  Like this coming week…

  1. Celtic will spend next to nothing this season , Miller is a non starter, this is a lowering of fans expectations, we all know what’s coming

  2. We seem to be well covered in midfielder if we do want a midfielder a big physical enforcer we need to light weight in this position ” also a proven goal scorer and a better centre half than we have at present scales and trusty 2 duds .get spending celtic up to now players in projects who maybe come good very risky by the management.

  3. Miller wants to go abroad, this was well publicised at the time. Lee Miller came out and said this. Articles like this are completely pointless.

    • I completely agree with Permo! The constant stirring up by this column is quite ludicrous and pointless!
The player, his dad, and agent have not shown much interest in staying in Scotland! Realistically, who can blame him?
While I think he would benefit from two or three years with Celtic before moving abroad, what do I know? I’m a selfish Celtic fan! My motives are completely selfish!
But likewise, this column as well as many others which try to stir things up with the Celtic support, are trying to make the fans believe all the club need to do to get Lennon in is ask, offer and he will sign!
      They couldn’t be more wrong!
They act as if the player is just sitting waiting for us to come along!
      Not the case at all!
