It’s the hope that kills them but you’ve got to marvel at the confidence of the Rangers fans

Sometimes you’ve got to marvel at the confidence of the Rangers supporters who are always at their happiest when there’s no proper football being played…

There’s no doubting that theRangers supporters are a strange bunch, collectively they certainly appear to lack more than a few brain cells, but something they don’t lack in is an abundance of unfounded confidence.

For a side who have won only two major trophies in the past decade and finished last season empty handed, not to mention being crowned as the worst team in Champions League history, they sure have a very optimistic outlook for their team.

They have of course added a few players to their squad so they have a wee bit to be optimistic about, but I’ve heard supporters of theRangers shout from the rooftops about winning the treble, and even qualifying for the latter stages of the Champions League under the guidance of their genius manager.

Last summer they were telling us that they had the best two players in the league in Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent and estimated their combined transfer value at over £60m – yet both have walked out the door at the end of their contracts earning them a big fat zero for their best two stars.

It’s quite humorous to be honest, not only have they still got the tricky Champions League qualifiers to overcome, they have to prove they can compete with a treble winning Celtic squad when it’s meaningful. They after all have previous of wilting under the pressure.

Celtic have of course lost the influence of Ange Postecoglou and the class of Jota, but have made just as good a replacement in the hot seat with the return of Brendan Rodgers. A proven manager and winner.

The Jota money has of course allowed us to add quality to a squad of proven winners. More are also likely to follow, and with champions league group stage football guaranteed for the second successive year, all is looking good over Celtic Park way.

Yet social media and the phone ins are full of optimistic supporters of theRangers and pessimistic Celtic supporters. It sure is a funny old world, but we’ve all seen this movie before and the ending is always the same…
