James Forrest hoping Scott Brown commits to new Celtic deal

James Forrest has admitted that he is hoping Celtic captain Scott Brown commits to a new deal. The 35-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of this season and long-standing teammate Forrest believes that the Celtic legend can play for another season with the Parkhead side as they look to regain their Premiership trophy.

As reported by The Daily Record, Forrest says that Brown, who has spent fourteen years at the club, is a huge part of the club and has an enormous influence over the football club whether he is playing or not.

“With everything he has achieved here, he is such a big part of Celtic. On and off the park he has been unbelievable.

“If you look at his numbers you will see they are right up there with the very fittest players and he never misses training. So yes, it would be good if he stayed here for another year. I think everybody involved at the club – players, staff – wants that.

“I can see him playing here for another year and then it is about how he feels with his body.”

With a new manager coming to the club, Brown might be willing to wait and see whether he features in the new plans of the new boss. Brown can be a positive influence if his games are managed as well as his position. The deeper role that he was deployed in under Brendan Rodgers was likely to be his best in recent years. If he remains at Celtic, this anchor role would suit Brown as well as his influence off of the pitch.

With Stephen Glass reportedly keen on offering Broony a dual role at Pittodrie as player/assistant, Brown is reportedly considering this offer as he plans for the next season. Brown is one of Celtic’s most decorated player, became an Invincible Treble winner as well as racking up the most European appearances for a Celtic player. Brown is expected to make the transition into management and you cannot rule out seeing him in the Paradise dugout at some point, although it would be a shame to see the player leave after this season.

Forrest meanwhile made a return after months sidelined with an ankle injury in the draw at Tannadice. He followed this up with some minutes in the bounce win over Kilmarnock at Lennoxtown and will be hoping that he is called upon in next weekend’s Glasgow Derby.
