Jim Craig – A bit of a romp, Celtic winning 5-1

After 9 matches in the month of August, in the club’s very first season, Celtic ran out at First Celtic Park on this day in 1888 for their opening Scottish Cup tie, the opposition being Shettleston.

The team was Dunning, McKeown, Coleman, Gallagher, Kelly, McLaren, McCallum, J Coleman, Groves, M Dunbar, O’Connor and the match turned into a bit of a romp, Celtic winning 5-1.

Unfortunately, the names of the scorers are unknown and the attendance was also not recorded.

Many Happy Returns to Tony Cascarino, born on this day in 1962.
