Joe Hart’s noteworthy contribution to Celtic’s points total

Why Joe Hart deserves nothing but praise for his contribution to Celtic over these past few weeks as the team has struggled for form…

It’s no secret that Celtic is in the look-out for a new goalkeeper this summer with time running out on Joe Hart’s playing career, but in must be recognised that over these last few games he has produced crucial saves at vital moments. As mentioned earlier Celtic picked up four points from two tough away fixtures. It could have been six, especially if we’d taken our chances in the first half at Pittodrie.

But it could have been two defeats and no points had it not been for the crucial saves Joe Hart made in both matches. These saves could prove to be very important indeed come May when the Premiership trophy is lifted.

And don’t forget that Joe Hart also saved us from dropping two points at home to Ross County a couple of weeks ago, when his quick reactions saved a certain last minute goal which could have proved to be a disaster. So rather than seven points from nine it could have been just one.

Last weekend at Pittodrie he pulled off a few smart stops that ultimately saved us from losing the game. Ok we didn’t win, but we don’t lose and it can be looked upon as a point gained. That point could prove crucial in the grand scheme of things.

It was a similar story at Easter Road last night, when yet again he was on the top of his game and had more than played his part in us winning the game. It was a huge three points which could again prove vital in the destination of the title.

Joe’s a great presence in the squad, he is respected, he is a leader and he all the experience needed gained in a glittering career and all that coupled with his undoubted ability will go a long way to helping us successfully defend our title.

Joe gets his fair share of stick, occasionally deserved often not. So it’s only fair he receives the praise he deserves for his recent performances and the support recognise his contribution to this title battle we’re in.

Just before Christmas The Celtic Star asked Joe Hart and also Brendan Rodgers about whether there were contract talks planned. Joe said he’d leave that to his agent when the manager said that there would a conversation towards the end of the season to see where they were.

Keeping Hart around, even if we do sign a younger goalkeeper this summer, makes perfect sense. If you want to mentor a young keeper coming into Celtic then who better to do that and the two can compete for the gloves.
