John Hartson praises Giakoumakis for his performance against Real Madrid

John Hartson has praised current Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis for his performance against Real Madrid.

After Kyogo suffered a shoulder injury against theRangers, which resulted in him being substituted inside the first minute, the support was concerned that Kyogo wouldn’t able to play in the opening Group stage match of the Champions League. Ange Postecoglou gave some hope by revealing that Kyogo had trained on Monday and seemed fine, but he never made the starting line-up against the European Champions. So,  Giorgos Giakoumakis stepped in agaist theRangers then started in the Champions League opener.

Going head to head with the current champions of Europe is no easy task, as indeed Celtic found out, but the Celtic team played incredibly well and gave Real Madrid plenty to think about, backed by an incredible effort from each one of the 60,000 Celtic fans inside Paradise. . However, the class of Madrid prevailed as they were able to withstand the early waves of Celtic attack and ultimately defeat the Hoops in the later stages of the game.

John Hartson went out of his way to praise to Giakoumakis for his performance against Real Madrid. Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show the fromer Celtic striker said: “Sometimes when you don’t get big chances in a game, you’ve got to close people down, make sure you win fouls up the pitch, take the team up the pitch, all these other things.”

“When you’re not getting chances you won’t be happy. Not a real chance came his way but he did all the other dirty stuff that centre forwards have to do. Especially when he’s up there on his own. You know, he’s up there against two quality centre-halves. I thought he did very well tonight as well, Giakoumakis.”

Giakoumakis and Kyogo are both class stikers and we are lucky to have both at our club.
