Johnny Kenny, remember him? The Irish under 21 international who joined the club in 2022 from Sligo Rovers? Yes that Johnny Kenny who is currently showing fine form in a loan spell with Shamrock Rovers back in his homeland.

Johnny never made a first team appearance for the club and was quickly loaned out to Queen’s Park, but failed to score in his 12 appearances with the Spiders.

However following a loan spell at Shamrock Rovers, Johnny has pushed himself back into contention by scoring 21 goals in 69 games including a couple of strikes in the Irish sides impressive performances in the UEFA conference league that has took them on the brink of a play off spot.

Johnny is still contracted to the club until 2027 and according to the ever reliable Stephen McGowan at the Scottish Daily Mail, he will be given a chance to prove himself in Glasgow when his current loan deal ends in January.

With only Kyogo and Adam Idah as our current strikers, it would make sense to give the Irishman a chance to see if he can make the grade and save the club forking out for another striker come January.

About Author

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.

  1. The league of Ireland season finished a number of weeks ago.
Yet shamrock rovers have a big game on Thursday in the conference league, followed by a trip to Chelsea before Christmas.
So a decent enough chance that shamrock rovers will qualify for the knock out stages, which will be in February, the same as ourselves hopefully?
So Johnny Kenny will have the full month of January, to potentially make a claim for a position within our squad for the remainder of this season?
Think Rodgers is looking at Kenny first, with being further down the development road than Cummings at present imo?
Yet January should give us a far better indication as to where we might be heading, regarding a young 3rd striker within our ranks, for the remainder of this season?
